track our progress — step 1-4 complete

In the first quarter of 2009, the ALSP board of directors and headquarters staff initiated a project to develop a new industry certification. Our management company, SmithBucklin, provided additional support to this project with additional leadership, expertise and activities at no cost to ALSP. Together, we have adopted a project plan that consists of the following steps:

  1. Governance — COMPLETE
Formation of steering committee and approval of overall plan by ALSP board of directors.

  2. Market Research Planning — COMPLETE
ALSP leadership previously determined the need for a professional certification (see ALSP backstory) — additional information was required to better understand what topic/level should be pursued.

  3. Member/Non-member Survey — COMPLETE
Design and implement a survey to litigation support professionals to determine who benefits from exam and if subject matter should be universal or focused in its content.

  4. Employer Market Research: Field Work and Analysis — COMPLETE
In-depth research with litigation support employers.

  5. Funding — IN PROCESS
Secure partnerships and relationships with key stakeholders in industry to underwrite development costs.

  6. Program Identity Creation and Marketing
Develop and implement execution of Certification brand identity.

  7. Certification Test Creation
Begin the four step process to develop a professional certification exam — learn more about this process in the February 2009 issue of ALSP Update.

  8. Exam Administration and Policy Creation
Establish all necessary policies and details to begin administering certification exams to litigation support professionals.

  9. Program Administration
Establish all necessary processes and procedures to ensure ongoing certification program execution.
