CHICAGO (17 April 2008) — Regional chapters of the Association of Litigation Support Professionals are now active in five cities across the U.S., and six additional chapters are planning to hold inaugural meetings in the coming weeks. With a mission to establish global standards for the litigation support profession through collaboration, education and certification, ALSP is dedicated to advancing the profession and contributing to the career development of practitioners around the world from all sectors of the industry.
Association members — thought leaders in the burgeoning field of electronic discovery — help attorneys, top executives and government officials traverse the increasingly complex intersections where technology and law collide. To date, chapters include:
- ALSP Austin
- ALSP Boston
- ALSP Buffalo
- ALSP Central Connecticut
- ALSP Dallas/Ft. Worth
- ALSP Houston
- ALSP Los Angeles
- ALSP Michigan
- San Diego
- ALSP Rochester
- ALSP Washington DC
All litigation support professionals, members and nonmembers, are welcome to participate in ALSP chapters. Visit the ALSP Web site to learn about upcoming chapter meetings and activities.
“The legal community is beginning to realize … what an important role litigation support professionals are playing in helping attorneys and their clients to navigate our rapidly evolving technology infrastructures in preparation for litigation in ways that minimize liabilities that could result from inadequate electronic discovery management,” says national ALSP board member Khrys McKinney of NewLaw Inc.
“Establishing standards and a certification program will increase respect for the litigation support professional, make sure our voices are heard and provide a clear path to achievement for those who want to get in to the profession and those who want to advance in it,” says Karen Jensen-Clark, senior project manager, capital litigation support, for Howrey LLP.
Patrick Kennedy, litigation support manager for Baker Botts LLP, underscores the urgency of the organization’s mission when he says: "From a macro point of view, this market is no different than any other. If litigation support departments don't counter this growth with a standard protocol, their corporate clients will." ALSP seeks to incorporate input from all sectors of the litigation support community — including corporate, law firm and service bureau litigation support — to validate the standards and certification processes that the association ultimately provides to the industry.
ALSP chapters are organizing around the globe. Contact ALSP headquarters to learn how to establish a chapter in your region of the world.
